Gregory Chorus Parents:
ARTSpeaks, with financial support
from the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation, is sponsoring an event
addressing the Arts’ Competitive Advantage on Tuesday, February 5 at 7 P.M., in
the Neuqua Valley Gold Building Forum room.
In January, parents of 8th
grade students in District 204 will help their children select classes at the
high school level that will provide them the very best education. This ARTSpeaks
event will affirm the selection of the Arts as an elective during all four years
of high school.
Time and again, this community has demonstrated a strong
conviction that the Arts are an essential part of a comprehensive education and
that the Arts create the competitive advantage for our students.
As a
core curricular offering consistent with the mission of District 204, the study
of art and music prepares all students to succeed. Our school district board’s
goals define 21st Century Skills as the 4 C’s (collaboration, communication,
creativity and critical thinking). These 21st Century Skills are embedded in
District 204's art and music curriculum and instructional
practices.
Keynote speaker for the ARTSpeaks event is nationally renowned
educator, Dr. Peter Boonshaft. Dr.Boonshaft, a professor at Hofstra University
in New York and notable author of “Teaching with Passion, Purpose and Promise”,
will address how the Arts teach students to develop their passion for life into
the career of their dreams.
ArtSpeaks is also pleased to welcome as
speakers Dr. Margaret Byrnes and Mr. Jason Dvorak. Dr. Byrnes, a clinical
psychologist in private practice, 204 parent, and ARTSpeaks board member, will
discuss the role of the Arts in her personal and professional development and
address how the Arts are a critical component in health and wellness. Mr.
Dvorak, Vice President of OTTR Chronic Care Solutions, will address the impact
the Arts have had on his life, including how the Arts brought people back to
their high school 20 plus years after graduation to make music
together.
Attendance to this event is free and made possible through a
grant from the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation.

Solo and Ensemble Volunteers Needed
Dear Pioneer Music Families,
Gregory is co-hosting Solo and Ensemble with Crone Middle School this year on Saturday, February 23. Crone has offered to provide the site, room monitors, hospitality and greeters for the day. We are in charge of the Contest Office.
The Contest Office is a large and critical job that does the following:
-prepares all of the judging/scoring sheets
-processes all scoring sheets on the day of contest
-sorts medals and sheets into boxes for each school
-posts scores throughout the day
-is the “hub” of the entire day
We cannot run this alone and need your help! The Contest Office will need 4-6 adults on hand at all times from 8-5 PM on Saturday, February 23. We are looking to create shifts so that we may rotate volunteers and lessen the impact on just a few people. We would be very grateful for your help in staffing the Contest Office.
