Concert Choir 2022-23

The first Concert Choir rehearsal will be Tuesday, October 18, from 6:55-7:45am. Please enter through DOOR #1 anytime between 6:45-6:53am (you should be in your seat in the chorus room ready to go at 6:55), and bring a pencil and your assignment notebook. Rehearsals for Concert Choir will be Tuesday & Friday mornings throughout the school year.

Welcome to Gregory Chorus 2022-23

Welcome to the Gregory Middle School Choral Department!  The chorus offerings here are a significant part of our school curriculum and will enhance your middle school experience greatly.  The chorus program is designed to help each singer improve their own vocal skills, expand their musical understanding, and increase their personal growth through working together in class and in performances.

It is the goal for each chorus student to:

1.      Discover, appreciate and value his/her own talents, the talents of
         others and the beauty of all types of music.

2.      Improve skills in using his/her vocal instrument, learning music
         theory and reading skills, and general musical knowledge.

3.      Gain a desire to continually improve upon past performances.

4.      Experience self-fulfillment after having communicated to others
         through music.

5.      Experience music in a way that will bring lasting enjoyment and as
         an activity that can be continued long after leaving GMS.

In addition to all of these goals, we also love to have fun together in chorus!  Of course, it is expected that every student give his or her best effort and cooperation.  With all of us working together, it will be an exciting, inspiring, and rewarding year.

Fine Arts Festival - Saturday, May 21

As our 4th quarter concert, we will be singing at the District 204 Fine Arts Festival at Neuqua Valley High School on Saturday, May 21. This is a required performance for ALL Gregory chorus students and participation in this event will go in as a student’s quarterly performance grade. We will be combining with singers from Crone MS and Neuqua Valley HS, so this is sure to be a fantastic day of music making!

The schedule for the day is as follows:

7th & 8th Grade - report to the Neuqua orchestra room at 9:40am; performance in the auditorium from 10:40-11:00am.

6th Grade - report to the Neuqua orchestra room at 2:40pm; performance in the auditorium from 3:40-4:00pm.

Attire for singers is nice dress clothing (no jeans, gym shoes, torn clothing, athletic wear, etc.). All performances are open to the public!

Thank you to everyone who auditioned. This is always a wonderful and yet highly competitive and difficult process. We had a tremendous turnout and appreciate all of your efforts and talents...we wish we could take everyone! ***Students and parents, we ask that you do not post reactions about the cast to social media. While some are celebrating, others may not be. Please be sensitive to other families.***

The first cast rehearsal is Monday, March 21 from 3:05-4:45pm in the Chorus Room. Please bring an assignment notebook, pencil, highlighter, and water bottle.

For any cast member interested in taking the activity bus home after rehearsals, please have a parent contact the main office as soon as possible to arrange for your name to be registered and added to the list of activity bus students. Otherwise, you will be expected to be picked up promptly at 4:45pm Monday through Thursday by a parent.

Winter Choral Concerts - February 24

IMPORTANT UPDATE…PLEASE READ!

 

Dear Gregory Chorus Families,

We have some news and updates to share regarding next week’s chorus concerts on Thursday, February 24. Due to some revised district guidelines, we are now able to adjust our concerts to accommodate additional students and audience members. As such, here is our new schedule for the evening:

6:00pm performance (note NEW time) – 6^th Grade Chorus, Men’s Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, and Concert Choir.

7:30pm performance – 7^th Grade Chorus, Men’s Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir, and 8^th Grade Chorus.

Report times and locations for each group are as follows:

Men’s Ensemble – 5:00pm, Commons (enter through Door #1)

Concert Choir – 5:10pm, Commons (enter through Door #1)

6^th Grade Chorus – 5:30pm, Commons (enter through Door #1)

 

7^th Grade Chorus – 6:45pm, Chorus Room (enter through Door #4)

8^th Grade Chorus – 7:00pm, Commons (enter through Door #1)

 

Students should be in place in their assigned report location and ready to sing no later than their assigned time, so that our warmup session can proceed quickly and efficiently with all students present (coats should be dropped off in the chorus room). Your efforts in making this happen are greatly appreciated!

All choral performances will be taking place in the Gregory Commons. Audience members should enter through Door #1 starting 10 minutes prior to the start of each concert. NEW: our audience is no longer limited to two people per student. Feel free to sit in any open audience seating and space yourself according to your personal comfort level.

For the students in our extracurricular ensembles only (Men’s Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, and Concert Choir):

·      Please make sure to eat dinner prior to your report time, as it will be a longer evening for you performing in both concerts.

·      6^th grade extracurricular ensemble singers, feel free to bring a snack as well as a task to work on between the two concerts; you will be hanging out in the chorus room during that time.

·      We will no longer be doing recording sessions next week, but will still meet during our scheduled day and time to rehearse. However, there is no longer a need to bring your concert clothing to school on those days!

Required performance attire for all singers is:

·      Gray Gregory Music T-shirt

·      Black dress pants or leggings (no jeans, sweatpants, ripped clothing, or athletic attire, please)

·      Black dress shoes

·      If wearing socks, black only (no colors)

·      No extraneous clothing items permitted (bandanas, scarves, hats)

·      NEW: per updated district guidance for all classes and school events, we have moved to mask recommended

We are excited to have all of our singers performing live and in person for this round of concerts, and are looking forward to seeing you there that evening!
