Dear Gregory Music Families,
In the past we have live streamed our Triptych concerts to help families view the 6th grade performances and also allow you to share the performance with out of town family and friends.
We have received a new way to livestream this year, so we ask for your patience and understanding should a technical glitch or error occur during the livestream process. The live stream will be available starting prior to the performance start times, and also can be accessed after the performances to rewatch.

Points will be deducted for incorrect or inappropriate concert attire. Polo shirts for any students who ordered one will be distributed in class the week prior to the concert.
Students are required to stay for the duration of their assigned concert (each concert runs approximately 45-50 minutes). Students in Men's Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, and Concert Choir are required to perform at both concerts.
8th Grade Musicians of Distinction (MODs)…if you are able to help with setup, please report to the East Gym at 5:00pm.
Parents…we are also in need of some pre-concert supervision prior to both concerts. If you are interested in being an extra set of eyes in the West Gym or chorus room, please email Mr. Pfenninger and let him know for which supervision (5:30-6:00pm or 7:15-7:45pm) you would be able to assist. Thank you!

Extracurricular Singing Opportunities
In addition to our daily grade-level choirs that meet during the school day, we offer a wide variety of extracurricular singing groups and events at Gregory that rehearse outside of the school day. Sign-ups for many of these are occurring over the next two weeks, so I wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of each offering. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue one or more of these ensembles as an enhancement to and extension of what is learned in chorus class.
Parents...please encourage your child to take advantage of these additional singing opportunities. Your encouragement goes a long way to helping our students maximize their musical and educational potential. Thank you for your efforts!
· Concert Choir, Gregory’s honors-level auditioned treble-voice choir, will be holding auditions Wednesday, September 4 and Thursday, September 5, after school. All treble-voiced students (girls and unchanged boys) are encouraged to try out! Sign-ups for a 5-minute audition timeslot are posted in the chorus room, but will fill up quickly, so interested students are encouraged to find a time as soon as possible. Students will also need to bring in a signed permission slip/participation contract prior to their audition – students will NOT be allowed to audition without the form signed by a parent/guardian. The first rehearsal will be on Monday, September 9, from 6:55-7:45am. For more information about Concert Choir and the rehearsal schedule, see the information posted further below.
· Men’s Ensemble, Gregory’s premier all-male vocal group, will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, September 10, from 3:10-4:00pm. This is a HIGHLY recommended event for our 7th and 8th grade students...please consider auditioning and taking part in this terrific festival.

Repertoire consists of advanced middle school and high school level music from a wide variety of genres and cultures. The group rehearses twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays before the school day (6:55-7:45am), and performs at various additional events throughout the school year (see the Gregory Chorus events calendar handed out in class for the additional Concert Choir performance dates).
Men’s Ensemble is a non-auditioned group open to male singers (changed and unchanged voices) at Gregory. The ensemble’s one weekly rehearsal alternates on a week-to-week basis between Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school (3:10-4:00pm). Rehearsals focus on the special needs of the changing male voice, and students have fun performing a challenging but entertaining repertoire of music from a wide variety of genres.
Mixed Vocal Ensemble is Gregory's co-ed extracurricular ensemble. The goal of the group is to provide an outlet to students in Concert Choir or Men’s Ensemble who wish to pursue an additional, more pop-oriented co-ed performance opportunity. Repertoire will consist of contemporary and classic pop songs, Broadway medleys, show choir selections, jazz standards, and holiday carols, amongst others. The ensemble will rehearse once a week on an alternating schedule – Wednesdays after school (3:10-4:00pm), then Tuesdays before school (6:55-7:45am). Interested students must be members of either Concert Choir or Men’s Ensemble in order to participate.
The ILMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association) Music Festival is an additional opportunity for seventh and eighth grade students. The festival is a single daylong activity on Saturday, November 9 in which students work with a special guest clinician in a large choir of over 200 of the best singers from the western Chicago suburbs. At the end of the day, a concert is performed for parents, friends, and teachers. Auditions will be held at Yorkville Middle School in Yorkville on Saturday, September 28. Help sessions to learn the audition material will occur in September, one day per week after school; for students who are selected to the choir, help sessions to learn the festival performance set will occur in October, one day per week after school. This is a HIGHLY recommended event for our 7th and 8th grade students...please consider auditioning and taking part in this terrific festival.

Welcome to Gregory Chorus 2019-2020!
Welcome to the Gregory Middle School Choral Department! The chorus offerings here are a significant part of our school curriculum and will enhance your middle school experience greatly. The chorus program is designed to help each singer improve their own vocal skills, expand their musical understanding, and increase their personal growth through working together daily and in performances.
It is the goal for each chorus student to:
1. Discover, appreciate and value his/her own talents, the talents of
others and the beauty of all types of music.
2. Improve skills in using his/her vocal instrument, learning music
theory and reading skills, and general musical knowledge.
3. Gain a desire to continually improve upon past performances.
4. Experience self-fulfillment after having communicated to others
through music.
5. Experience music in a way that will bring lasting enjoyment and as
an activity that can be continued long after leaving GMS.
In addition to all of these goals, we also love to have fun together in chorus! Of course, it is expected that every student give his or her best effort and cooperation. With all of us working together, it will be an exciting, inspiring, and rewarding year!
In chorus class, students will be given two important informational forms: a list of chorus events for the year and a uniform contract. Please review the information contained within both forms, sign as needed, and return the bottom portions by Friday, August 30. In addition, students will be required to have the following class materials in place by Thursday, August 29: a two-pocket folder, approximately 20 sheets of loose-leaf paper, and at least one sharpened #2 pencil.
Finally, if you have not already done so, please bookmark the Gregory Chorus website in your browser; this will be the main portal for disseminating important information, announcements, reminders, and class resources throughout the school year.

Summer Chorus 2019
Neuqua Valley is fortunate to host one of the District #204 Summer Chorus Camps this coming summer. What a convenient opportunity especially for students entering Grades 4-12 living in and around Neuqua. We hope that students and families are looking to invest in this extremely valuable summer program to continue to improve in music reading, listening, and performance skills in a fun, relaxed environment. Fine Arts Festival - Saturday, May 18
Dear Gregory Chorus Families,
The school year will be wrapping up in a big way with the 2019 District 204 Fine Arts Festival, which will take place on Saturday, May 18 at the Neuqua Valley High School main campus. We are excited to be performing with the other choral musicians at Crone MS, Scullen MS, and Neuqua Valley HS! As communicated at the beginning of the school year, this is a required curricular performance for the members of our grade-level choirs at Gregory. The following choral groups are scheduled to perform:
6th Grade Chorus (performing with the Crone & Scullen 6th Grade Choruses & the Neuqua Treble Choir) – 1:20-1:40pm; students are to report to the Neuqua orchestra room no later than 12:15pm for warm-up and rehearsal.
7th Grade Chorus (performing with the Crone & Scullen 7th Grade Choruses & the Neuqua Varsity Singers) – 3:40-4:00pm; students are to report to the Neuqua orchestra room no later than 2:35pm for warm-up and rehearsal.
8th Grade Chorus (performing with the Crone & Scullen 8th Grade Choruses & the Neuqua Concert Choir & Bass Chorus) – 9:00-9:20am; students are to report to the Neuqua orchestra room no later than 7:55am for warm-up and rehearsal.
Gregory's extra-curricular vocal groups (Men’s Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, and Concert Choir) will not be performing at the festival. Attire for the day is the gray Gregory Music polo shirt & black dress pants, black dress shoes, and black socks.
Please mark these times on your calendar today. As this is a required curricular performance, attendance is mandatory, and unless an existing conflict had already been communicated earlier, an alternative assignment will not be available as a replacement grade.

Shrek Jr. Auditions - March 11 & 12
Attention interested actors and singers…are you ready to let your freak flag fly? Auditions for this year’s school musical, Shrek Jr., will be on Monday March 11 (for students with last names A-L) and Tuesday March 12 (for students with last names M-Z), from 3-5:30 in the LMC. Auditions are open to all Gregory students! Interested students should pick up an audition packet in the main office. The audition packet contains important information including a rehearsal schedule, a permission slip, and script excerpts that will be used at the audition. In order to audition, a signed permission slip must be returned by the end of the day on Friday, March 8. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Battle or Mr. Pfenninger.

Winter Choral Concerts - Tuesday, February 26
The Winter Choral Concerts will take place on Tuesday, February 26, in the Gregory East Gym. The following is the schedule for the evening:
6:30pm concert - 6th Grade Chorus, Men's Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir; Concert Choir & Men's Ensemble students need to report to the West Gym by 5:30pm, 6th Grade Chorus students need to report to the West Gym by 6:00pm.
8:00pm concert - 7th Grade Chorus, 8th Grade Chorus, Men's Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir; all groups need to report to the West Gym by 7:15pm (students performing in the first concert who are also performing in the second concert will report to warm-ups at the conclusion of the performance). Students who are performing in this second concert but are NOT in 7th or 8th Grade Chorus will report to the Chorus Room; please bring something to work on (homework, personal reading).
Students are expected to attend their assigned concert(s) for the duration of the concert, including while other groups are performing. Attire for performers is the gray Gregory Music polo shirt, black dress pants (no capris, leggings, skirts, jeans, etc.), black socks, and black dress shoes. Points will be deducted for students not wearing the correct concert attire, so please be sure to be dressed appropriately.
